FALL SUNDAY school classes
The Psalter (Book of Psalms) is perhaps one of the most often cited portions of Scripture. Here, the reader is able to “run the rapids” of human emotions! Think about it for a minute – through the voices of the psalmist(s), we hear raw human emotion… joy, anger, love, sorrow, etc., resonating throughout! And as our pleas, petitions, and prayers of thanksgiving pour from the depths of our souls, we find that they merge with the utterances of those faithful men and women who have gone before us…those who were blessed to have the same sounding board as you and I…the loving and always receptive ears of our Heavenly Father, Who bids us, “Come…” As we make this journey through the Psalms during these next 10 weeks, we will address the question(s), “What are the themes and unifying threads, woven throughout?” And more, “IS there a central theme to the Psalter, as a whole? To ALL 150 psalms?” Come and see! St. Ambrose, one of our Early Church Fathers, noted in his Explanations of the Psalms “how the psalms encapsulate the whole of the Bible, providing a true GYNAMSIUM for the soul… Whoever studies it deeply will find it a kind of GYNAMISIUM open for all souls to use, where the different psalms are like different exercises set out before him. In that gymnasium, in that stadium of virtue, he can choose the exercises that will train him best to win the victor’s crown.” And what else can we say, but this – we see the promise of hope unfolded…we see Jesus! “In the psalms…not only is Jesus born for us, He also undergoes His saving passion in His body, He lies in death, He rises again, He ascends into heaven, He sits at the right hand of the Father.” So, are you ready for a little “cross-training?”
If you are a small group leader or apprentice, please join us as we read & discuss "Making Small Groups Work - What Every Small Group Leader Needs to Know" by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend (the same guys who wrote the "Boundaries" books) This book provides new and experienced small-group leaders with everything they need to know to help their group go from a small group to a growth group. It's an operating system for small groups. Doctors Cloud & Townsend provide valuable guidance and information on how leaders can help their groups to grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.
