Psalms…Get ready to stretch, learn, and grow! (Fellowship
Hall)
The Psalter (Book of Psalms) is perhaps one of the most often
cited portions of Scripture. Here, the reader is able to “run the rapids” of
human emotions! Think about it for a minute – through the voices of the
psalmist(s), we hear raw human emotion… joy, anger, love, sorrow, etc.,
resonating throughout! And as our pleas, petitions, and prayers of
thanksgiving pour from the depths of our souls, we find that they merge with
the utterances of those faithful men and women who have gone before us…those
who were blessed to have the same sounding board as you and I…the loving and
always receptive ears of our Heavenly Father, Who bids us, “Come…”
As we make this journey through the Psalms during these next 10
weeks, we will address the question(s), “What are the themes and unifying
threads, woven throughout?” And more, “IS there a central theme to the Psalter,
as a whole? To ALL 150 psalms?” Come and see!
St. Ambrose, one of our Early Church Fathers, noted in his Explanations
of the Psalms “how the psalms encapsulate the whole of the Bible, providing
a true GYNAMSIUM for the soul… Whoever studies it deeply will find it a kind of
GYNAMISIUM open for all souls to use, where the different psalms are like
different exercises set out before him. In that gymnasium, in that stadium of
virtue, he can choose the exercises that will train him best to win the
victor’s crown.”
And what else can we say, but this – we see the promise of hope unfolded…we see Jesus! “In the
psalms…not only is Jesus born for us, He also undergoes His saving passion in
His body, He lies in death, He rises again, He ascends into heaven, He sits at
the right hand of the Father.”
So, are you ready for a little “cross-training?”
Making Small
Groups Work (Room 407)
If you are a small group leader or apprentice, please join us as
we read & discuss "Making Small Groups Work - What Every Small Group
Leader Needs to Know" by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend (the same
guys who wrote the "Boundaries" books)
This book provides new and experienced small-group leaders with
everything they need to know to help their group go from a small group to a
growth group. It's an operating system for small groups. Doctors Cloud &
Townsend provide valuable guidance and information on how leaders can help
their groups to grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.
In the new film COURAGEOUS (from the makers of Fireproof); four law officers are
confident and focused when standing up to the worst the streets have to offer.
But leading their families at home in a God-honoring way? That takes courage.
Based on the highly anticipated movie, this Courageous Living Bible Study four
week study will help facilitate leading you toward living more
courageously in four key areas:
Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for your family
Priorities: focusing on
eternal things rather than what is temporary
Legacy: recognizing a person’s
potential impact as a godly role model
Faith: strengthening a
person’s identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom

whether you have been a Lutheran all your life, this class will help you

Becoming a Good
Samaritan
How did the Good Samaritan demonstrate his love for God? Was it
through his passion, his prayer, his physical strength or his intelligence?
This study will help us answer those questions for ourselves and to implement
ideas now. Topics included will be honoring the poor, seeking justice and reconciliation
and loving the forsaken.
